TAKE THE CHILDREN TO ‘CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS’ FOR NEW YEARS DAY

What: Pondering the conundrum of entertaining children &/or grandchildren this New Year’s Day?

Here’s a brilliant family-friendly solution:  Saint-Saëns’ wonderful Carnival of the Animals.

Where: The Southern Peninsula Arts Centre @ 275 Eastbourne Road Rosebud will host two performances by a specially-formed chamber ensemble with narrator Christopher Lawrence (ABC Classic FM).  This zoological fantasy has introduced many thousands of young people around the world to the magic of music & the instruments of the orchestra.  Tickets are a mere $15 or $12 when in groups of 4 or more.

ADOPT-A-HOTSPOT & POETRY BOMBING @ HASTINGS

preparationThe Peninsula Poets ‘poetry bombing’ spoken word performance event last Saturday has contributed to ‘kicking’ off the Adopt-a-HotSpot project with style.  See the Poets in front of their ‘paste-up’ words below

The poetry bombing event was made possible with funds from former Cerberus Ward Councillor Reade Smith.  He is photographed with the ‘bombers’ second from right.

With moral support and paint from well-known local identity Fred Bayne who has also donated his wall that adjoins a public laneway in town for the project.  First we had to remove all of the tagging that had been on display for far too long.

Young artist Dale Hutchinson was commissioned by the Hastings Community House to create a piece on their behalf along with students from Western Port Secondary College who were also invited to take up a space and to create a work around the theme of ‘dreams’.  This is a new approach whereby we are inviting the community to participate in ‘adopting’ sites to watch over and care for to prevent tagging take over our streets.

The Adopt-a-HotSpot project is a partnership between The Shire, The Western Port Chamber of Commerce & Hastings Police.  If you would like to know more contact me Andrea arts@mornpen.vic.gov.au or phone me on 0438 051 092.
