What : CitiOpera, Melbourne’s premier performance company for new and emerging talent, is celebrating its rebranding with a performance of Guiseppe Verdi’s Otello.  Based on Shakepeare’s play Othello, the Verdi opera version will showcase upcoming opera talent in Victoria. The CitiOpera performance is set to wow audiences as it opens with the scene of a dramatic storm at sea, and unfolds with palpating scenes of jealousy, arrogance and rage as a military hero begins to unravel.
Led by maestro Gaetano Colajanni and directed by renowned opera singer Stella Axarlis AM, CitiOpera’s Othello will bring to life Verdi’s majestic score and Arrigo Boito’s dramatic libretto.

CitiOpera is a not for profit organisation promoting Australian talent and relies on funding from grants, charitable organisations and ticket sales.

CitiOpera’s mission is to perform opera in its original languages and to excite and inspire audiences. The semi-professional company is under the artistic direction of Dr. Joseph Talia OAM, a famous vocal teacher who enjoyed a long history as a professional tenor singing in operas around Europe for many years.

Most of CitiOpera’s members are professional music teachers or perform regularly as semi-professional musicians.
