State Library Victoria calls for Fellowships for 2015
Applications open for Australia’s largest fellowship program
Artists, performers, writers, historians, filmmakers and scholars are encouraged to apply for State Library Victoria’s annual Creative Fellowships program.
In 2015, the State Library will offer 12 Fellowships. Two new fellowships will be offered this year including the Russell Beedles Fellowship in theatre and performing arts and a fellowship in Ukrainian studies supported by the Ukrainian Studies Foundation.
There are also specialist fellowships in children’s literature, social history, visual arts, theatre, the 19th century Victoria and a fellowship to commemorate the centenary of WWI.
State Librarian and CEO Sue Roberts said the Fellowship program is at the heart of the State Library’s commitment to working with creative communities, and draws fellows from a diverse range of backgrounds and disciplines.
“Now in its twelfth year and the largest program of its kind in Australia, our Fellowships have supported more than 160 artists, historians, composers, academics, playwrights, writers, poets and other creative researchers with over $1.6 million in funding in that time.”
“Our Fellows are creative people who have had the enriching opportunity of working closely with the Library and it is an inspirational experience for them, enabling them to take their work in new and exciting directions.
“The Program encourages innovative ways for people to explore and use our extensive collections to create new content for the future,” she said.
Past Fellowships have produced major exhibitions, public art installations such as Grasslands, documentaries, books, graphic novels and screenplays. Previous Fellows include graphic artists Bernard Caleo and Alex McDermott, writer and cartoonist Kaz Cooke, wine writer Max Allen, Circus Oz founder Sue Broadway.
“In 2015 we aim to bring people together to experience and celebrate the work of our Fellows through performances, publications, websites, screenings, talks, exhibitions and other events at the Library and venues around Victoria,” Ms Roberts said.
Applications for the 2015-16 Fellowships open Friday 30 January and close Friday 17 April 2015.
