What: A free workshop presented by peninsula poet, Andrea Louise Thomas. “Open to anyone who would like to have a go at writing and performing original poetry”.
Andrea Louise Thomas has been in the State Final of the Australian Poetry Slam three times, as well as being a finalist in Poetry Idol at the Melbourne Writer’s Festival three years running. Andrea completed an Australian Poetry Café Poet residency at the Mornington Peninsula Library. She’s had numerous poems published in journals and anthologies and has won prizes for poetry. She teaches writing and performing workshops in local schools and libraries. Andrea has appeared on TV and read her poetry on radio. Andrea is Arts Editor of Mint magazine (formerly Pearl Magazine). She has a degree in English Language and Literature from the University of California, Berkeley.
How: Participants will learn to identify distinctions between poems best suited for page (reading) or stage (performing). The group will discuss what works best for both formats. Each person in the class will be given time to write two short poems and perform them to the group. Andrea will provide coaching tips for successful performance.
