SENSE OF PLACE AND WELLBEING THROUGH CREATIVITY ON THE MORNINGTON PENINSULA

What: I was invited to attend the launch of a 2014 Mornington Peninsula Shire Creative Community Grant project at the Women’s Housing Ltd Rooming House in Mount Martha on Tuesday 16 Nov 2015.  Not only was the public outcome of two large glass mosaic wall plaques a positive addition to the façade of the facility, the project has inspired tenant Cheryl Widlend (pictured on left in the first photo) to continue running creative activities amongst the tenants, they have taken over an upstairs space to run regular workshops in knitting, mosaic, painting and drawing, sewing and quiltmaking.

A number of service group representatives also attended the launch and remarked at what an improved sense of place and belonging there was in the household.  These are the public outcomes the Shire is keen to see achieved through our Community Grant programs.  I will continue to advocate for the group in sourcing other funding to allow the tenants to continue their creative lives.
