What: Peninsula Photographer Matt Mackay has produced a stunning calendar for 2016. Highlighting a number of well-known and much loved sites around our stunning coastline.
Having lived on the Mornington Peninsula most of my life and being a keen a surfer I’ve built up a strong connection with it’s unique coastal and marine environment so it’s not surprising that my main focus is on nature/landscape photography. I feel it’s essential to have a connection with the subject you are photographing to truly capture it’s essence. I can’t imagine living away from the sight, sound and smell of the ocean and being a narrow peninsula we’re very fortunate to be surrounded by both the pounding waves of the Southern Ocean and the calmer tranquil waters of Port Philip Bay. These waters host a rich marine ecosystem, comparable to the Great Barrier Reef, attracting divers from all around the world. We’re also very fortunate to have much of this spectacular coastline encompassed in the Mornington Peninsula and Point Nepean National Parks, providing sanctuary to a diverse range of native flora and fauna. With such “Natural assets” it came as little surprise when National Geographic named the Mornington Peninsula on it’s ‘Best of the World – 20 Places You Should See in 2015’ list”.
